The wait is over…

08-May-08

Around 6:32 PM tonight, May 8, 2008, my grandpa – Charles Weldon Chandler of Baytown (and recently Pasadena), TX – went home to be with the Lord.  He departed from his body without pain, suffering or struggle.  He was surrounded by his family.  I was able to pray for him and speak some scripture to him and those gathered while holding his right hand as he took his dying breath.  It was quite an honor, and also quite surreal – like being in a movie.

So I don’t usually get in peoples’ faces about this, but I am going to be perfectly clear here: the only reason that we’re able to survive this loss is because we know grandpa’s spiritual state.  When I say “the Lord” I explicitly mean Jesus Christ, our only mediator to God the Father.  Grandpa and my mother both put their faith in Jesus and were baptized in the early sixties – my grandpa already a grown man by then, obviously.  I don’t always act like much of a minister, but I’m supposed to.  Without Jesus there is no hope.  You’ve either put your trust in him, or you haven’t.

…And there is salvation in no one else, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (ESV)

All religions aren’t the same.  All faiths don’t lead to the same mountaintop.  The Bible is explicit about this in many places.  Don’t let the world and its liberal, evil syncretism fool you.

Jesus said to him, ”I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 (ESV)

Pretty clear.  Won’t you put your trust in Him?

A long week so far…

07-May-08

I have about two readers here.  Both of them already know what is going on by way of twitter and chat.

My grandpa has been back in the hospital since Monday afternoon, and I’ve been up with him all that time except a few hours today to get some sleep and go to the church to run the Wednesday night basketball / bible study.  I’ll be going back up to the hospital afterward.

In short, his kidneys have failed and all his other systems are broken.  His body won’t be making it out of the hospital alive, but his soul will.
